International Transportation Manager

About the Role:
In this key role, you will be responsible for establishing global shipping contracts, managing freight forwarding and consolidation, and overseeing customs clearance for our Australia and New Zealand operations.
You’ll be responsible for negotiating annual shipping contracts, tracking allocation and costs, and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. You’ll drive efficiency, manage transportation costs, and lead LEAN sessions to enhance our processes. Additionally, you’ll oversee customs clearance and freight forwarding arrangements, ensuring compliance and cost savings.
Your expertise will be critical in setting up hub and cross-dock functionality, aligning supply and demand, and selecting appropriate vendors. You’ll collaborate closely with logistics teams, IT, and external suppliers to streamline our transportation processes.

What You Will Do:
Lead the Shipping team to achieve key business objectives.
Set measurable priorities and complete tasks such as One-on-Ones, Performance Management, and Individual Development Plans.
Collaborate with relevant parties to achieve shipping goals and lead sessions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Monitor and manage shipping costs.
Negotiate contracts with direct supply shipping lines/routes in Australia and New Zealand, maintaining rates below benchmarked levels.
Manage customs clearance and freight forwarding agents, identifying cost-saving opportunities and service improvements.
Set up hub and cross-dock functionality, aligning supply and demand to avoid distribution center issues.
Manage contracts with suppliers and maintain relationships with key port authorities in Australia and New Zealand.
Who You Are:
With a strong background in international trade and shipping, you are an exceptional communicator and relationship-builder, skilled at engaging with stakeholders at all levels. Your ability to foster collaboration, drive engagement, and create meaningful connections ensures you excel in building trust and achieving shared goals. You will also bring;
Experience in international trade and shipping.
Understanding of Systems/EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).
Strong financial management skills and procurement and negotiation expertise.
Ability to influence others and manage change effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Well-organized, decisive, and able to balance urgency with attention to detail.
Committed team player with a performance ethic.
Ideally you are a leader with post-graduate qualifications, APICS accreditation, cross-dock expertise, strong commercial acumen, SAP proficiency, and proven skills in supplier management, problem-solving, and driving change with a customer-focused approach.
